Experimental Characterization and Physics Based Modeling of Aluminum Alloy 7075

Sponsor: NAVAIR

This research combines extensive material characterization and testing with physics based scale dependent constitutive relations to address multi-axial fatigue characteristics of Al 7075. The effects of grain orientation and size on the material mechanical response at microscale and the grain distribution effect on the damage evolution are studied in detail. The developed framework will be capable of predicting damage initiation and growth, including the failure of representative volume element (RVE) at meso scale.
